Ingredients

  • 2 sticks cinnamon
  • 5 cardamom pods
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 1 ounce lemon juice
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • 2 tablespoons spiced maple syrup
  • 3 ounces champagne

Instructions

  1. In a medium pot over high heat, bring 1/2 cup water, maple syrup, cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, star anise, and sliced ginger to a boil for about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat, stir in orange zest, and let cool. Strain into a glass jar.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 tablespoons of spiced maple syrup, bourbon, lemon juice, and a few dashes of orange bitters. Add ice, shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until chilled.
  3. Strain the mixture into a glass, filling it about two-thirds full. Top off with champagne.
  4. Garnish with an orange slice and a star anise if desired. Serve with a cinnamon stick for extra spice.
