Ingredients
Scale
- For the Dough:
- 1 packet Dried Active Yeast
- 250 ml Warm Water
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 500 g Plain Flour
- 1 tsp Salt
- For the Decoration:
- 50 g Olives (chopped)
- 1 medium Orange Pepper (bell pepper)
- 1 tbsp Extra Strong Food Colour Gel
- 2 tbsp Water (for mixing color)
- Sesame or Nigella Seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Dough: In a bowl, mix warm water with dried active yeast. Let it bubble up for about 5-10 minutes, then stir in the olive oil.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift the plain flour and mix in the salt until well incorporated.
- Knead Dough: Whether using a dough hook or kneading by hand, work for about 10 minutes until your dough is smooth and elastic.
- Proof the Dough: Cover the bowl with a cloth and let your dough rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Shape Snakes: Divide the dough into 50-gram pieces and roll each into snake shapes. Place them on kebab sticks and arrange on a lined baking tray.
- Bake First Phase: Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F) and bake the snakes for 15 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
- Color Snakes: Mix a few drops of water with your food coloring. Brush this mixture over the snakes and sprinkle sesame or nigella seeds for extra flair.
- Final Bake: Return your decorated snakes to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, ensuring they are fully cooked and vibrant in color.
- Decorate: Once cooled, carefully twist out the kebab sticks. Poke holes where eyes and mouths should be and insert chopped olives and orange pepper.
Notes
- Serve with a bowl of garlic mayo or BBQ sauce for extra flavor!
- Ensure water is warm, not hot, to activate yeast properly.
- Leave enough space between dough shapes on the baking tray for even expansion.
- Twist kebab sticks gently when removing to avoid breaking the breadsticks.
- Experiment with different food coloring shades for unique designs.
