Description
Mujadara is a beloved Middle Eastern dish made with lentils and rice, seasoned with aromatic spices and topped with crispy fried onions.
Ingredients

- 1 cup brown or green lentils, rinsed
- 1 cup long-grain white rice
- 1 large onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 cup crispy fried onions
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the diced onion and sauté for 5-7 minutes until translucent and lightly browned.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the lentils, rice, cumin, coriander, and cayenne (if using). Season with salt and pepper.
- Pour in the broth and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the lentils and rice are tender and the liquid is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes.
- Fluff the Mujadara with a fork and transfer to a serving dish.
- Top with the crispy fried onions and fresh parsley.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
