These Caramel Chocolate Pretzel Rods combine salty crunch with sweet, creamy caramel and rich chocolate, making a perfect homemade treat for gifting or indulging.


Ingredients

  • 14 thick pretzel rods
  • 40 soft caramels (e.g., Werther’s Original)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 12 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips or chocolate melting wafers
  • Flaky sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a Silpat mat.
  2. Unwrap all 40 soft caramels and place them in a microwave-safe bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of heavy cream to the caramels. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well until melted and smooth.
  3. Dip a pretzel rod into the melted caramel, covering most of the rod and allowing excess to drip off. Place it on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Let the caramel-coated pretzels set for 15-20 minutes or refrigerate for a firmer set.
  5. Melt 12 oz of semi-sweet chocolate chips or wafers in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals until smooth.
  6. Dip each caramel-coated pretzel rod into the melted chocolate, fully covering the caramel layer. Shake off excess chocolate.
  7. While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle with flaky sea salt or desired toppings.
  8. Let the chocolate set at room temperature or refrigerate for 10-15 minutes until firm.
  9. Once firm, enjoy or package for gifting.
