Description

Sweet Teriyaki Sesame Beef Skewers offer a quick and flavorful meal, perfect for weeknight dinners or casual gatherings. These skewers combine savory beef with a sweet teriyaki glaze, creating a delicious taste experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 pieces Wooden Skewers (Soak in water for 1 hour)
  • 1 pound Boneless Beef Sirloin Roast (Slice against the grain)
  • 1/2 cup Soy Sauce (Opt for low-sodium variety)
  • 1/4 cup Dark Brown Sugar (Light brown sugar can be substituted)
  • 6 cloves Garlic (Pressed, or garlic powder can be used)
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame Oil (Substitute with lighter oil if desired)
  • 2 tablespoons Mirin or White Sugar (Mirin is preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons Hoisin Sauce (Can be omitted if unavailable)
  • 1/4 cup Pineapple Juice or Fresh Crushed Pineapple (Limit marinade time to 15 minutes if using fresh)
  • 2 tablespoons White Sesame Seeds (Toast for extra flavor)

Instructions

  1. Soak wooden skewers in water for 1 hour to prevent burning on the grill.
  2. In a dry skillet over medium-high heat, toast the white sesame seeds for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Stir frequently, then let them cool.
  3. Trim any connective tissue from the boneless beef sirloin and slice it into thin pieces, about 2 x 3 inches and 1 cm thick, always against the grain for tenderness.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, dark brown sugar, pressed garlic, sesame oil, mirin or white sugar, and hoisin sauce to create the marinade.
  5. Add the sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring it is well coated. Let the beef marinate for 1 hour to infuse the sweet teriyaki flavors.
  6. Once marinated, thread about 6 slices of the beef onto each soaked skewer, leaving a 2-inch handle for easy grilling.
  7. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (around 400°F).
  8. Grill the sweet teriyaki sesame beef skewers for 3-4 minutes on each side, cooking until they become sticky and slightly charred.
  9. Serve your sweet teriyaki sesame beef skewers hot, with additional teriyaki sauce if desired.

Notes

  • For a complete meal, serve your sweet teriyaki sesame beef skewers with steamed jasmine rice.
  • Always soak wooden skewers for at least an hour to prevent burning.
  • Cut beef against the grain into thin slices for tenderness.
  • Do not marinate beef for more than one hour, especially if using pineapple juice, to prevent mushiness.
  • Preheat your grill to around 400°F for optimal caramelization of the sweet teriyaki sesame beef.
  • Ensure the internal temperature of the beef reaches at least 145°F using a meat thermometer for food safety.
  • Leftover cooked sweet teriyaki sesame beef skewers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Marinated beef can be frozen for up to 3 months; thaw overnight in the fridge before grilling.
  • Reheat cooked sweet teriyaki sesame beef skewers gently in the microwave or a skillet to maintain tenderness.
