Delicious Savory Hand Pies that Make Dinner Exciting


Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 medium White onion
  • 1 medium Carrot
  • 1 rib Celery
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 pound Ground beef (85/15)
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon White pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Beef stock or broth
  • 1 medium Russet potato
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh thyme leaves
  • 2 tablespoons Finely chopped parsley
  • 1 cup Green peas
  • 2 sheets Puff pastry (frozen)
  • 1 egg Whisked
  • 1 teaspoon Flaky salt (Optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Gather and prep all ingredients except puff pastry sheets; keep those frozen.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat, add butter and olive oil, then sauté onion, carrot, celery, salt, and pepper until soft.
  3. Add garlic, beef, Italian seasoning, white pepper, and more salt and pepper. Cook until beef is browned.
  4. Stir in tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce, then add flour and mix well.
  5. Pour in beef stock with diced potato, cover, and simmer for 25-35 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
  6. Stir in thyme, parsley, and peas. Cool filling completely.
  7. Thaw puff pastry at room temperature for 40-45 minutes.
  8. Roll each pastry sheet into squares and cut into smaller pieces.
  9. Place filling in the center of each square, leaving a border.
  10. Wet edges, cover with another square, and seal tightly.
  11. Cut slits on top, chill in the freezer for 15-20 minutes.
  12. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  13. Brush pastries with egg wash, sprinkle salt, and bake for 24-26 minutes until golden brown.
  14. Cool on a rack for 10 minutes before serving.
