Description

These homemade honey dinner rolls are soft, slightly sweet, and irresistibly good. They are fluffy, golden, and have a delicate touch of honey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk (105-115°F)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in the remaining sugar, honey, melted butter, and egg into the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually add 3 cups of flour and salt, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 8-10 minutes, adding the remaining cup of flour as needed, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning once to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Gently punch down the risen dough. Divide it into 12-16 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth ball.
  7. Arrange the honey dinner rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Bake the honey dinner rolls for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Brush the warm honey dinner rolls with melted butter immediately after removing them from the oven.
  11. Serve your delicious homemade honey rolls warm.

Notes

  • For extra soft honey rolls, use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour.
  • If your kitchen is cold, proof the dough in a slightly warmed oven (turned off) to help it rise.
  • These honey-sweetened dinner rolls can be made ahead. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • For a quick honey dinner roll recipe, you can use a stand mixer with a dough hook for kneading.
  • These fluffy honey rolls from scratch are excellent with a honey butter spread.
