Description
A hearty hamburger steak served with rich gravy.
Ingredients

- 2 Tablespoons olive oil
- 1 ½ lbs. ground beef, 85% lean
- 4 Tablespoons frozen butter, shredded
- ½ cup yellow onion, very finely minced
- 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
- 3 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt/Pepper
- 2 yellow onions, sliced into ¾ inch strings
- 3 Tablespoons cold unsalted butter, divided
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup cold water + 3 tablespoons corn starch
Instructions
- Gently combine minced onions, shredded butter, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and ground beef. Don’t overwork the meat.
- Form into oval steaks and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
- Remove from fridge and season with salt and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the steaks for 2-3 minutes on each side. Set aside.
- Decrease heat to medium-low. Melt 2 Tablespoons butter and add onions. Cook for 15-20 minutes until softened and caramelized.
- Add chicken broth, beef broth, onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Scrape the skillet to lift meat remnants for flavor.
- Mix cornstarch and cold water until smooth. Bring gravy to a boil and whisk in cornstarch mixture until thickened.
- Add steaks back to the skillet and spoon gravy on top. Cover for 10 minutes until cooked through (internal temperature should be 160° F).
- Swirl in remaining cold butter for a smooth finish. Sprinkle with parsley and serve with mashed potatoes and roasted carrots.
Notes
- Cooked and crumbled bacon can be added to the meat.
- Top with Swiss cheese before serving.
- Add mushrooms to the gravy if desired.
- For creamier gravy, mix in a can of cream of mushroom soup at the end.
