Description

A vibrant and flavorful Cabbage Stir Fry featuring tender green cabbage, fresh ginger, garlic, and grated carrots, tossed with noodles and a savory homemade stir fry sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 cups thinly sliced green cabbage
  • 1/4 cup minced fresh ginger
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup grated carrots
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 9 oz ramen noodles, flavor packets discarded
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons reduced sodium soy sauce or tamari
  • 1/4 cup toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Sweet chili sauce, to taste for serving

Instructions

  1. Remove the core from the green cabbage and thinly slice 5 cups worth. Dice the yellow onion, mince the fresh garlic and ginger, and grate the carrots to prepare all your fresh ingredients.
  2. Add the sliced cabbage, ginger, garlic, grated carrots, diced onion, and 2 tablespoons of sesame oil to a large skillet or jumbo cooker. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, for 15-20 minutes until the cabbage wilts and the onion softens.
  3. In the last 5 minutes of cooking the vegetables, prepare the ramen noodles according to the package instructions, discarding the flavor packets after cooking.
  4. Combine the reduced sodium soy sauce or tamari, toasted sesame oil, and cornstarch in a mason jar or bowl. Shake or whisk vigorously until the sauce is well combined and slightly thickened.
  5. Once the cabbage mixture is cooked, add the drained ramen noodles and the homemade stir fry sauce to the skillet. Stir well to coat everything evenly and continue cooking for another 3-5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the noodles and vegetables.
  6. Taste and add additional soy sauce if desired, although this step is optional as the sauce should already be flavorful.
  7. Plate the stir fry and top each serving with a drizzle of sweet chili sauce to add a perfect balance of sweet and spicy flavors that complement the dish beautifully.
