Description

Discover the magic of Forgotten Cookies, a simple yet delightful dessert that bakes overnight using residual oven heat. These cookies offer a satisfying crunch and melt-in-your-mouth texture, making them a treasured family tradition.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large, grease-free bowl, whip egg whites with an electric mixer until foamy.
  3. Add cream of tartar and continue beating until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff, glossy peaks form.
  5. Beat in vanilla extract for 30 seconds.
  6. Gently fold in chocolate chips and chopped nuts using a rubber spatula.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the mixture onto the prepared baking sheets.
  8. Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven.
  9. Immediately turn OFF the oven.
  10. Leave the cookies in the closed oven overnight (8-12 hours) to dehydrate.

Notes

  • Ensure your mixing bowl is completely clean and grease-free before whipping egg whites.
  • Room temperature egg whites whip faster and create better volume.
  • Avoid opening the oven door during the overnight process.
  • Humid weather can affect results; choose dry days if possible.
  • Store finished cookies in airtight containers at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
