- 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
- 1.5 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh chives
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh thyme
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh rosemary
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh sage
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1.75 cups buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F.
- Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt in a mixing bowl.
- Incorporate the chopped herbs and cheddar into the flour mixture.
- Add the buttermilk and stir until just combined.
- Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured counter and fold it to form a smooth ball.
- Shape the dough into a ball and pat it into a 7-inch circle.
- Transfer to a floured baking sheet and dust with flour.
- Score a cross into the top of the dough about ½ inch deep.
- Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 375°F and continue baking for another 30 to 35 minutes.
- Cool by wrapping in a tea towel.
